Naturally Beautiful Istria

Naturally Beautiful Istria

West Coast, Istria The joys of off-season camping! Our section of the campsite in Vrsar on the Istrian peninsula must consist of over 50 pitches, but with only about half a dozen currently occupied, we have a wonderful, uninterrupted view of the sea and islands. The weather is great and the Oldies are being particularly lazy, soaking up the sun by day and enjoying the ridiculously gorgeous sunsets each evening. Paradise! It’s not an entirely peaceful paradise, however. Spring has…

A Spell in Hum

A Spell in Hum

Now, I am not much of a culture vulture, but I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Džmonja Sculpture Park in Vrsar. Perhaps that makes me a sculpture vulture? The location of the park on a hill overlooking the sea is a wonderful setting for the beautiful works of this world-famous Croatian artist. The Oldies were amazed that admission to the park is free. Definitely worth it!I wouldn’t know how to even begin to interpret these sculptures, made of a…

Gorgeous Istria

Gorgeous Istria

I’m all choked up at having to leave France and the Atlantic coast. The Oldies have promised, however, to make for the Mediterranean as soon as possible. Roaming amongst Roman remains

Roaming amongst Roman remains

Pula, Motovun, Istria Apart from almost nightly thunderstorms, the weather here in Istria is glorious and the oldies are just lapping it up. Her Ladyship is getting quite lazy! Every time Himself suggests an outing, she reminds him of the importance of topping up their tans while they still have the chance. Yesterday, however, he did manage to drag her (and me) onto a bus to Pula, the largest town in Istria. It was well worth the visit. A port…

Loitering within tent

Loitering within tent

Typically, our journey from the Czech Republic to Croatia was far from uneventful. His lordship, not a great believer in modern technology, refuses to buy a SatNav. Her ladyship’s map-reading skills are, as we already know, quite woeful, and as neither of them puts much stock in planning, preferring to just follow their elderly noses wherever they may lead them, the return journey was yet another mystery tour – eine Fahrt ins Blaue. And a very big Fahrt it turned…
