Potholing in Poreč

Potholing in Poreč

A visit to Baredine Cave, Poreč I was a tad nervous when the Oldies started talking about visiting the Baredine cave. I had been down the salt mines with them in Kraków, but this was different. It’s not man-made, so it could be a lot narrower, tighter… Not that I’m claustrophobic, mind you, but still, this is not the sort of place a self-respecting seagull wants to find himself all the same. I experienced a frisson in my feathers as…

Walking with Dinosaurs III

Dinosaur remains in Istria We’ve been enjoying the wonderful spring weather in Istria, relaxing, visiting the stunning Limski Kanal/Lim Fjord. Bird Lovers’ Paradise

Bird Lovers’ Paradise

Papago Park, Istria Well, this was a find – a bird park! On a hot day such as we had, Papago Park in Črvar, just up the road from Poreč, was the perfect place to visit. Apart from keeping visitors cool, it is an ideal environment for the feathered inhabitants…

A visit to Dinopark, Funtana, Istria Travelling with the Oldies has often left me with mixed feelings, but I’ve never yet experienced the combination of absolute terror and deep embarrassment. This happened when they announced that, after having passed by Dinopark in Funtana dozens of times over the years, it was high time they finally paid it a visit. Now, I’m not too au fait with human rules of etiquette, but I would have thought that, on an outing to…

Love Affair with Vrsar

Love Affair with Vrsar

Casanova in Vrsar, Istria After three months in rural France, I was beginning to think that I’d never get to see water again, let alone the sea. Back in Austria, the Oldies didn’t even bring me to as much as a lake. They just kept disappearing off on me, going up the mountains looking for mushrooms or whatever. Hah! I’ve heard the early bird catches the worm, but the Oldies are certainly no early birds. Judging by what they brought…
